Respect is something you earn. But respect doesn't linger at the same level over time unless you've discovered relativity or something that betters the human race. Most people live and work without discovering relativity. Most people are like you and me. We work, we play, we accomplish small victories.

Julian Shapiro said something on Twitter yesterday that got me thinking:

Beware those who want to teach but don't want to be taught.

I've seen too many living off the respect of their past accomplishments. Respect levels fade over time. Working well with others is the best way to gain a lifetime of respect and fulfillment.

Listen. Learn. Teach. In that order.
