Micropayments with ChangeTip
March 11, 2015
For a few months now I've been working with a Bitcoin startup on an app called ChangeTip. The app allows anyone to send micropayments or "tips" through your social media account or directly through the web app. I'm accepting tips at my tipme profile. One cool thing you can do is set up monikers so you can tip say, a coffee, a dinner, a breakfast, a beer, a hamburger. Anything you want and you've set up on your account.
When first working on the app, I really didn't understand the whole bitcoin thing. Skimming over a few articles that would pop up from time to time, it always seemed like fake geek money. It wasn't until I watched the documentary "The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin" that I fully understood how decentralized currency worked.
I keep thinking ChangeTip will take off and I'll start seeing my friends in the web design and development community using it. But here's the thing: It's super hard to get set up with bitcoin in your ChangeTip wallet. Unless someone tips you a bunch and you already have a substantial amount of bitcoin to tip, you'll have to go through the very annoying process to get your money in your regular bank account converted to bitcoin in your ChangeTip wallet. Even I felt a little apprehensive.
Imagine you're giving a talk, and after you've spoke, several people in your audience tip you via ChangeTip on Twitter for giving a good talk and you do the same for someone asking a great question.
